Goalkeeper Neto is also believed to be closing in on a new two-year renewal at the Artemio Franchi, which would include an option for a third year and a pay rise from his current €600,000 annual salary.

However, the Gazzetta dello Sport report that Fiorentina’s plans to renew Aquilani’s deal too are less certain.

Whilst both the club and player are understood to be keen to continue their relationship, the Viola are believed to be pressing to reduce earnings from a current €1.7m plus bonuses, where Aquilani is seen as reluctant to oblige.
