Massimo Cellino has confirmed that he has agreed a deal to sell a majority shareholding in Cagliari to a US group of investors.

The consortium led by Luca Silvestrone had been in continued talks in recent months with Cellino, who was looking to offload the Rossoblu after 22 years, having recently bought majority ownership in Leeds United.

Whilst in competition to take over the club with mining mogul Tommaso Giulini, Silvestrone’s bid has proven successful, as confirmed by Cellino today.

“I am delighted, I hope that they do not do to them what they did to me,” Cellino has commented to ANSA.

“We have reached an agreement and we have drafted a letter of intent providing for their entry into the company.

“God bless them, now they will struggle with the bureaucracy.”

The closing years to Cellino’s administration with the Sardinian club will be characterised by his dispute with local authorities over construction of a new stadium.
