World Cup winning-Coach Marcello Lippi was a notable guest at Italy’s Thursday morning training session at Coverciano.

The Guangzhou Evergrande tactician has paid a visit to his Italy successor Cesare Prandelli during the second week of the Azzurri’s preparations at the Italian Football Federation’s training facilities.

Lippi spoke with Prandelli on the sidelines during the morning workout and met with staff, before being warmly received by the 100 or so fans in attendance at training.

The 66-year-old led Italy at the previous two editions of the World Cup, winning the 2006 edition in Germany before an unsuccessful defence of the title four years later in South Africa ended with group stage elimination.

Yesterday evening’s training session reportedly saw Prandelli trying out two formations with his players.
