‘Klose has convinced me of Lazio!’

Shkodran Mustafi has reflected on the ‘dream’ it is to be training with Germany and jokes that Miroslav Klose has already had him sign for Lazio.

The Sampdoria defender is currently training in northern Italy’s South Tyrol as a member of Joachim Low’s provisional Germany squad named for the World Cup.

For the youngster, the prospect of making the cut for the summer tournament is exciting.

“I try not to think about the World Cup,” Mustafi has considered to Il Seccolo XIX.

“Being here is like living a dream, but dreams that are beautiful are dangerous too, because one can wake up and be left upset.

“I try to give everything in training and I hope that that is enough to convince Low.

“I am experiencing this retreat like a dream, I’m the only one here that perhaps has never experienced anything like this.

“I am here until June 2, when the final squad list will be drawn, then what will be, will be.

“Here we work hard, we sweat to prepare for Brazil and to accustom our muscles to the climatic stress.

“The atmosphere here is great, there is a very strong team spirit already, you can train a lot, but also there is a lot of messing around. I already knew some of them but I especially know Mario Gotze from Bayern and Miroslav Klose as well.”

Mustafi was asked if Klose has used the opportunity to convince him about joining him at Lazio. The 22-year-old has been linked to the Aquile.

“Has he convinced me to go to Lazio? Yes, he brought me the contract here at the training retreat and I signed it directly.

“I imagine that there is no room for such talk before a World Cup. We talk about everything, but the future, at least mine, is only in June in Brazil - nothing beyond that.

“At Sampdoria I have had two-and-a-half positive years and in the last year, having played more, it has gone fantastically.

“I say this and repeat it because a player likes to play, and if he does not play, he cannot be happy.

“That said, when I come back after June, we will sit together and we will see what to do.

“With the environment, the fans and my teammates I now have a special relationship, if that’s what you want to know.”
