Roma have confirmed that Coach Rudi Garcia has signed a contract extension with the Serie A runners-up until 2018.

The Frenchman arrived at Stadio Olimpico last summer from former side Lille on what was initially a two-year deal.

He has since engineered a stunning turnaround in the Giallorossi’s fortunes, with the club improving dramatically on previous seasons to secure their return to the Champions League.

In a statement on their official website this afternoon, Roma confirmed the boss has been rewarded for his achievements this term.

“AS Roma communicates that it has confirmed a deal with Mr Rudi Garcia for the extension of his contract,” the statement reads.

“His previous contract was due to expire in June 2015. The new deal will last for four years, with an expiry date of June 30 2018.”

Roma President James Pallotta expressed his delight at having tied the 50-year-old down to a long term stay at Stadio Olimpico.

“I am happy to announce that Rudi Garcia and Roma have reached an agreement,” he said, again to the Giallorossi’s official site.

“As I’ve said many times in the past, even after I’d spent my first half-hour with Rudi in New York, I knew he was the right choice to take Roma forward in the long-term.

“His extension is an integral part of our plan to bring continuity and success to our project.

“We are only at the start of our journey and again, we need to thank Rudi, his staff and all of Rome for this marvellous beginning.

“We hope it will become a great future for Giallorossi fans around the world. Forza Roma!”
