Ghana name five Serie A players

Ghana have named a total of five Italian based players in their 23-man squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Milan duo Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari, Juventus’ Kwadwo Asamoah, Udinese’s Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu and Afriyie Acquah of Parma have all made Coach Kwedi Appiah’s final selection.

The Black Stars, who reached the quarter-finals of the tournament last time around, will take their place in a difficult-looking Group G of the competition alongside USA, Germany and Portugal.

Goalkeepers: Fatau Dauda (Orlando Pirates), Adam Kwarasey (Stromsgodset), Stephen Adams (Aduana Stars)

Defenders: Samuel Inkoom (Platanias), Daniel Opare (Standard Liegi), Harrison Afful (Esperance), John Boye (Rennes), Jonathan Mensah (Evian), Rashid Sumalia (Mamelodi Sundowns)

Midfielders: Michael Essien (Milan), Sulley Muntari (Milan), Rabiu Mohammed (Kuban Krasnodar), Kwadwo Asamoah (Juventus), Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (Udinese), Afriyie Acquah (Parma), Christian Atsu (Vitesse), Albert Adomah (Middlesbrough), Andre Ayew (Marseille), Mubarak Wakaso (Rubin Kazan)

Forwards: Asamoah Gyan (Al Ain), Kevin-Prince Boateng (Schalke 04), Abdul Majeed Waris (Valenciennes), Jordan Ayew (Sochaux)
