Barcelona will reportedly make a move for Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain this summer, if interest in Sergio Aguero fails to materialise.
The Catalans are believed to be in the market to strengthen their front-line during the next transfer window and reports are that they have Manchester City’s Aguero their prime objective.
Rumours in England are that City will hold firm on the Argentine and refuse any negotiations with Barca and Mundo Deportivo report that this is a position that has them considering alternative targets.
The Catalan-based publication indicate that on from earlier links, Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain is the name next on their list.
Whilst it is acknowledged that a move for the 26-year-old former Real Madrid man will be almost as difficult as one for Aguero, the perceived starting points for negotiation are notably different.
Where City are apparently looking at Gareth Bale’s €100m price last summer as guidance on Aguero, Mundo Deportivo say that offers for Higuain may start closer to the €40m mark, just €2m above the figure the Vesuviani paid Madrid for the striker 12 months ago.
Higuain, who netted 17 times for Napoli last season, is seen as liked by Barca for his mix of youth and experience and his understanding with Lionel Messi from their time together with the Argentine national team.
