Former Italy Coach Marcello Lippi is hoping Mario Balotelli can replicate the form he showed at Euro 2012 in this summer’s World Cup.
The Milan forward scored three goals during the tournament in Poland and Ukraine, including two in the Azzurri’s semi-final victory against Germany.
Speaking to Gazzetta TV, World Cup 2006 winning boss Lippi described Balotelli’s performances that summer as some of the best of his career.
“One comforting thing is thinking that Balotelli showed the best of himself with the national team two years ago at the European Championships,” Lippi commented.
“Maybe he is a player suited to big competitions like World Cups and European Championships. Let’s hope that’s how it is.”
