Former national team boss Marcelo Lippi is confident that Italy will qualify from their World Cup group.
The current Guangzhou Evergrande Coach was in charge of the Azzurri for the 2006 and 2010 tournaments, and with that experience, is well-placed to give his opinion on the current squad.
“They will qualify,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport. “The last two friendlies, as far as I’m concerned, count for nothing.
“The point of those games was to mix things up and try different things.
“I personally think Italy will win their first game – we are stronger than the English. They still remember the beating we gave them in the Euros.
“That game went to penalties, but we completely dominated that match.
“Uruguay could be a trickier customer. Their Coach Tabarez always puts out a compact team and Suarez could well be fit at that point.”
