Napoli will have to pay €100m if they still want to sign Javier Mascherano from Barcelona.
The Partenopei have been heavily linked with a switch for the Argentina international, but that looks to have ended overnight, with the confirmation that he has signed a contract extension with the Spanish giants.
The Blaugrana have revealed that the versatile defender put pen to paper on a deal that sees him stay at Camp Nou until 2018, with the option of a further year.
Mascherano’s buyout clause has also been raised to €100m.
It seems likely that Napoli will now pursue other targets.
