Emanuele Giaccherini thinks Italy will beat England 2-1 tonight, but “both teams could potentially win the World Cup.”

The versatile Sunderland winger had been one of the star performers at the Confederations Cup last year, but was not included in the Azzurri’s World Cup squad.

“I think it is going to be a wonderful and hard-fought match with two teams who could potentially win the World Cup,” Giaccherini told TuttoMercatoWeb.

“In my view, England fear Italy. Every time they have faced us, it has been very tough for them. As for the Azzurri, we must try to dominate them in midfield.

“Watch out for Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge, as they are without doubt the most dangerous and unpredictable players in the England squad.

“I think it will end 2-1 for Italy with goals from Mario Balotelli, Andrea Pirlo and Rooney.”

Giaccherini has been repeatedly linked with a return to Serie A, particularly for Fiorentina or Genoa, but insisted he’s staying in the Premier League.

“I have another three years on my contract, I am happy and will certainly remain at Sunderland. We’ll see what kind of team we’ll end up with, as there definitely needs to be work done on the transfer market.”
