Cesare Prandelli said Italy have problems against England, but “can overcome all the obstacles.”

The Azzurri have lost both left-back Mattia De Sciglio and captain Gigi Buffon for tonight’s World Cup opener in Manaus.

Riccardo Montolivo and Giuseppe Rossi had already pulled out before the tournament began, so the Coach is forced to reshuffle once more.

“The most important thing to remember is that that team can in any case overcome all the obstacles. We will need a solid and united side,” Prandelli told RAI.

“We were very pleased to receive good wishes from illustrious figures, such as PM Matteo Renzi and President Napolitano.

“We know that we must work to be up to the standards of our number one fan.”

There is scepticism around the Italy camp and Prandelli is well aware of the thin line between triumph and disaster.

“For now the bandwagon is full, but if were to fail then we’d be left there on our own.”
