Luis Suarez has declared himself ‘100 per cent fit’ to face England in Sao Paulo on Thursday evening.

The Liverpool striker had knee surgery last month, and missed the Celestes’ 3-1 loss to Costa Rica at the weekend.

However, the former Ajax man has insisted that he will be able to take to the field against the Three Lions in two days’ time, and barring any complications, against Italy as well in a week’s time.

However, the former Ajax man has insisted that he will be able to take to the field against the Three Lions in two days’ time, and barring any complications, against Italy as well in a week’s time.

“I was looking forward to getting involved and I wanted to help [against Costa Rica] but maybe it was better I didn’t because fate could have played a trick on me and set me back again,” Suárez told reporters.

“But I’ve done everything I had to do. I haven’t missed a day of recovery time and I’m 100 per cent fit, otherwise I wouldn’t be here.

“I’m training with the team again and I feel in good condition. I never lost the joy and the desire and I never thought I was going to lose out on playing in the World Cup because of injury.”

Italy play Costa Rica in Recife this coming Friday, before they end their Group D campaign in Natal against Oscar Tabarez’s men.
