Barcelona have announced that they will meet with Napoli this summer, for a preseason friendly in Geneva.

The two clubs are seen as in battle over Gonzalo Higuain, but have agreed to at least meet during preseason for a planned friendly to be hosted at the Stade de Geneve.

The game, which will be played in Switzerland’s third largest stadium with a capacity of 30,000, is set for August 6 with a 7pm UK time kick-off. Tickets go on sale today at a starting price of €40.

Barcelona have confirmed the news in a statement released on their website, which also runs with quotes from Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“Napoli welcomes being able to play in Geneva against one of the strongest and most prestigious temas in the world, in preparation for the next season,” De Laurentiis is quoted as saying.

“In addition, Geneva is a perfect match for this type of game, due to the presence in Switzerland of many Italian fans, many of them originating from Naples.

“For these fans and for athletes in general, Napoli will offer its very best and all its stars, from Higuain to Hamsik, from Inler to Insigne and from Callejon to Mertens, plus all the squad of players who are currently playing in the World Cup in Brazil.”

Napoli are Barca’s fourth confirmed opponent for preseason, following arranged matches set with Nice, HJK Helsinki and Club Leon.

Barca and Napoli played each other for the traditional preseason Joan Gamper Trophy back in August 2011, which the Catalans won thanks to a 5-0 result.

The Catalan club’s President has also commented on the upcoming test for Luis Enrique’s side.

“FC Barcelona will be playing this game in Geneva against a side with a lot of potential and history, SSC Napoli,” Bartomeu is quoted by Barca.

“It will be an excellent opportunity to continue getting our first team squad into shape under Luis Enrique, including this summer new signings, two weeks before the season starts.

“The level of the opponent, the quality and drive of our players and the atmosphere in the stadium will be essential ingredients for the supporters to enjoy a great show.”
