FIFA explained why seven Costa Rica players had anti-doping tests after the Italy game rather than the usual two.
Italian media reported that seven members of the winning squad were taken away for drug testing after the final whistle in Recife.
This is considerably more than the mandatory two players, so raised questions around the 1-0 win over Italy.
However, FIFA officials explained “two Costa Rica players were tested as per normal post-match procedure.
“Five other Costa Rica players were tested because they had not yet done the pre-competition testing.”
