Italia ’90 World Cup hero Salvatore Schillaci blamed Cesare Prandelli for 2014 failure. “Mario Balotelli is not a champion.”
The striker famously won the Golden Boot in 1990 when leading the Azzurri to third place, but the current squad crashed out in the first round.
“Prandelli got his call-ups wrong, as he brought too many players who had never played in the Nazionale. They had no experience,” Toto Schillaci told Rai Radio 2.
“He also took just two strikers, so he got the make-up of the squad wrong from the start.”
Balotelli has received a lot of criticism and Schillaci added to it.
“Balotelli is not a champion. He is a young player who can give a great deal, but when he plays he always looks like he doesn’t care.
“This is not the attitude of a champion and it was wrong to rely on him.”
