The Europeans secured their passage to the Last 16 of the World Cup with a 3-0 victory over Honduras in Manaus.
“We played a strong team in a difficult conditions. It was very humid,” Coach Hitzfeld told FIFA.
“We showed great attitude, will and passion and that got us through.”
There was no doubting Man of the Match, as Bayern Munich starlet Shaqiri became the first Swiss player to score a World Cup hat-trick since 1954.
“Shaqiri was excellent today – he really displayed what he’s capable of. But we played well as a team and they all deserve my congratulations.
“Now we need to recover. We have six days, which I’m happy about, and during that time we’ll get well prepared for the Argentina game.”
Switzerland face Argentina in the Round of 16 on July 1 in Sao Paulo.
