He was hobbling at the end of their 1-0 win over South Korea, but X-rays showed the damage was far worse than the original diagnosis of a sprain.

The 26-year-old has broken his ankle and will not be able to play again this summer.

Coach Marc Wilmots confirmed the news, but added “Anthony will stay with our team.”

The Red Devils will face the USA in their Round of 16 match on Tuesday in Salvador.

They have other injury concerns too, as Vincent Kompany, Laurent Ciman and Thomas Vermaelen are doubts.
