Oscar Washington Tabarez is “very proud” of his Uruguay players despite their World Cup exit to Colombia.
“We put Colombia under pressure,” said the Coach after a 2-0 defeat in Rio de Janeiro.
“We were not effective until the first goal was scored and from then on we went looking for an equaliser.
“It’s a shame we lost, but when one encounters an opponent that does better on the night then you have to accept it. We encountered a great striker.
“It’s very easy to analyse. When you win there is euphoria, when you lose there is pain. We lost against a great opponent.
“I am very proud of my players, because they gave absolutely everything.”
Naturally, Tabarez commented on the four-month ban for Luis Suarez, who bit Giorgio Chiellini.
“He is a very important player, there’s no need for me to say that, but we had to move forward in the situation we had.”
The Coach left question marks over his future, noting “my contract ends with this tournament. Until a proposal arrives to continue in the job, there will be no response from me.”
