The 36-year-old has been seen recently as in prospective talks with the Bianconeri over his future, with his current deal due to expire at the end of June 2015.

The Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport today are running the line that an agreement has been reached on a contract renewal and that all that it awaits before confirmation is the Italy captain’s signature.

However, the two publications differ slightly in their interpretation of the deal – Turin-based Tuttosport suggested that Buffon has agreed to a one-year extension to June 2016, with the option in place to then commit to June 2017.

The Corriere dello Sport believe, though, that the player still has to decide between signing to such an equation, or agreeing a deal outright to June 2017.

Buffon signed for Juventus in 2001 and his then reported €45m fee has him still listed as the world’s most expensive goalkeeper.
