Marc Wilmots assures Belgium “thoroughly deserved” their 2-1 victory over the USA in extra time.

The Red Devils were denied 15 times by goalkeeper Tim Howard, but eventually squeezed through for a quarter-final date with Argentina.

“We had at least 15 scoring opportunities, so we thoroughly deserved to go through, even though it was scary to the very end,” confessed the Coach.

“We had at least 15 scoring opportunities, so we thoroughly deserved to go through, even though it was scary to the very end,” confessed the Coach.

“The player fought hard for this qualification and dug really deep. All of Belgium can celebrate this quarter-final.”

Once again, Wilmots made decisive substitutions, as Romelu Lukaku set up one goal and scored another.

“Romelu was going through a difficult time and had received a lot of criticism after recent games, but I had prepared him well for this match.

“This is the life of a striker, I’m afraid, as you are judged on goals. It’s not the victory of one single player, but of the whole group.”
