Diego Maradona has revealed he turned down offers to join Juventus and Milan as Napoli was the only Serie A club for him.

The 53-year-old signed for the Partenopei in 1984 and went on to enjoy a seven-year spell at San Paolo, winning two Scudetti, a Coppa Italia and a UEFA Cup.

“I wouldn’t have played for other teams in Italy who weren’t Napoli,” Maradona told Il Mattino.

“And I did get some offers. There was an indirect offer from Juventus, but during a period in which Fiat were in crisis.

“There was also a direct offer from Milan, made by one of Berlusconi’s representatives.

“I continue to think, and I will always think, that Napoli was the best choice for me to make. It was my destiny.”
