Genoa President Enrico Preziosi confirms he’s waiting for Alberto Gilardino to accept Marcello Lippi’s Guangzhou Evergrande.

The 2006 World Cup winning striker is wanted by Lippi in China, where he’d join former Bologna teammate Alessandro Diamanti.

“We don’t know whether Gilardino will accept or not,” President Preziosi told Telenord this evening.

“If he doesn’t, then we will keep him and continue to give him a great deal of money. If he doesn’t, then we already have some alternatives.

“We want to bring the average age of the squad down and reinvest the money for a younger forward who we believe could be as strong as Gilardino.”

Preziosi assured the target was not Marco Borriello, although he could arrive on loan from Roma as well as the unnamed younger centre-forward.
