Gervinho blasted Ivory Coast Coach Sabri Lamouchi, praising Roma’s Rudi Garcia in comparison.
His nation was eliminated from the World Cup in the group phase after a win and two defeats to Colombia and Greece.
“The fault of the elimination is no doubt ours, but the players weren’t the only ones who got it wrong,” Gervinho told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“Certain games have to be faced without fear and that is what the Coach and his staff need to focus on.
“They need to have the experience of this type of match, to tell us what to do. We were unable to make the most of the fact our destiny was in our hands.”
Lamouchi resigned after the Ivorian exit to a last-minute Greece penalty, but Gervinho had only praise for his Roma boss Rudi Garcia.
“Garcia reconstructed a Roma squad that no longer had any confidence after the Coppa Italia defeat in 2013. He gave us back that joy and eagerness to play football.
“He is a great Coach, but above all a great person.”
