World Cup winner Mauro German Camoranesi blasted Mario Balotelli and suggested a new face for Italy.

The former Juventus man was in the Azzurri squad that lifted the 2006 trophy and after retirement is working as a commentator for Univision.

He spoke to TMW about the current tournament and in particular the Nazionale’s early exit.

“I always think youth should be given a chance, so I believe Fabio Cannavaro or Gennaro Gattuso would be up to the task of replacing Cesare Prandelli on the Italy bench.

“I believe younger people have a different vision of football compared to 60-year-olds. Having a younger Coach would be very good for Italian football.”

Camoranesi was highly critical of Balotelli during the World Cup and when asked if he found the striker disappointing, the response was brutal.

“Balotelli did what he is capable of. Nothing more and nothing less.”

Neymar is out of the World Cup after fracturing a vertebra, an incident that saw Colombia’s Juan Camilo Zuniga investigated by FIFA.

“It is not Zuniga’s fault. Football is a contact sport and you must never complain about that, otherwise you may as well not get on the pitch.

“It’s a shame these accusations are levelled at Zuniga, as he is a fair player. Brazil will miss Neymar and Thiago Silva so much against Germany in the semi-final.

“I feel very sorry for Neymar, as such a young player had taken the team on to his shoulders and to see him go out like that was painful for all lovers of football.

“Brazil are now a different team, as he was the only one who managed to be decisive in the final third, so they cannot be considered favourites against Germany.”
