The Netherlands have a poor tradition on spot-kicks and confirmed that with a 4-2 loss to Argentina in the World Cup semi-final.

“This is hard on us. We deserved something more. Maybe we should’ve decided the game earlier,” the Galatasaray midfielder told NOS after the 0-0 draw.

“I think there was only one team that wanted penalties and that was Argentina.

“It really does hurt. But that’s football.”

Sneijder and Ron Vlaar saw their penalties saved by Sergio Romero.

“I have to take part of the responsibility. It can sometimes go wrong. I hate shoot-outs so much.”
