Javier Zanetti trusts Leo Messi can lead Argentina to World Cup glory against Germany on Sunday.

The new Inter Vice-President is looking forward to the Final in Rio de Janeiro, his country’s first since 1990.

“Anything can happen in the Final, but I believe in my Argentina and trust they can put in a great performance,” Zanetti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I hope that we can win. Germany are a strong side, but we have Messi who is still Number One and can invent something at any moment.

“The players I liked the most in this World Cup have been Arjen Robben, James Rodriguez, Angel Di Maria, Javier Mascherano and Thomas Muller.

“We’ve seen so many goals and it has really been a fascinating tournament.”

Italy went out in the group phase, but Zanetti insists it’s not all bad.

“I think it was just a one-off incident. It’s a shame for Cesare Prandelli, but Italy will become great again.”
