Walter Samuel has reportedly turned down Sampdoria’s advances and will most likely end his career outside of Italy.

The veteran was in talks with the Blucerchiati over a one-year deal to stay in Serie A for 2014-15, following his release from the Nerazzurri at the end of last season.

However, even with Samp apparently increasing their initial salary offer from €600,000 to a squad high €1m, the club’s sporting director indicated over night that the signs aren’t good.

“[Yesterday] we have not had an answer from Samuel,” Carlo Osti has told SportItalia.

“The longer we wait the more negative the signs are. The deadline should be [today].

“We are dealing with Palermo for the exchange of Costa and Mantovani.”

Samuel is now reported as having turned the Genoa side down, with La Repubblica leading with the assessment that the 36-year-old is eyeing a return to Argentina.
