Italy’s poor World Cup showing at Brazil ’14 has seen them drop five places in the FIFA World Rankings to 14th.
The Azzurri suffered defeats to Costa Rica and Uruguay to bow out of the 2014 World Cup this summer at the group stages, and have been hit in the World Rankings released by FIFA on Thursday.
This is Italy’s lowest ranking since October 2010, on from a decline then experienced following their group stage elimination from the 2010 World Cup.
There is a new team at the top, with newly-crowned world champions Germany displacing Spain, who drop seven places to eighth, following their group stage elimination last month.
Action at the World Cup has significantly altered the top 20 positions in the rankings, with notable risers including Costa Rica jumping 12 places to 16th, and France up seven to 10th.
England, down 10 places, and Australia, down 14, suffered the biggest drops from the 32 nations that competed during this summer.
