New Sampdoria midfielder Jose Campaña is inspired by fellow Spaniards Xavi and Andres Iniesta.
The 21-year-old arrived this week from Crystal Palace for €1.8m, having spent last season on loan at FC Nuremberg.
“I can play anywhere in midfield,” he said in a presentation Press conference.
“My characteristics are to control the ball and organise moves. I play in midfield, but I like to attack, look forward and take a more aggressive approach.
“In Spain players like Xavi and Iniesta are reference points for everyone, just as Zinedine Zidane was in the past. They are formidable players, so it’s only normal a youngster will see in them the models to be imitated.”
Campaña is getting help settling in at Samp from fellow Spain Under-21 international Pedro Obiang.
“Pedro is helping me with translations and it’s particularly important when we’re doing training ground exercises. He helps me understand and explains when I’ve got it wrong.”
