Stefano Okaka wants Carlo Tavecchio to step down as FIGC Presidential candidate after “unacceptable, scandalous” comments.

The hot favourite to become the new President of the Federation is facing calls to pull out of the running following racist statements.

“It is unacceptable, scandalous,” slammed Sampdoria striker Okaka, who was born in Perugia from Nigerian parents and played for Italy at Under-21 level.

“The real problem is those who allow him to stay there. If the President who needs to set the example starts saying things like that, it’s all over.”

Tavecchio was discussing the lack of a work permit system in Italy for non-EU players.

“We say that any old Opti Pobà can come here, before he was eating bananas, now he’s playing in the Lazio first XI,” said Tavecchio on Friday.

Despite those statements, the Presidents of Lazio, the Lega Serie A, Serie B and Lega Pro have backed Tavecchio’s candidacy.

All but two Serie A clubs were behind him – Juventus and Roma – while the Players’ Association and Coaches’ Association put their vote with Demetrio Albertini.
