Fiorentina have confirmed that they have completed a deal to sign Monterrey defender Jose Maria Basanta.
La Viola confirmed last week that they had reached agreement with the Mexican outfit for the 30-year-old’s transfer and today they have now confirmed completion of his transfer.
“Fiorentina communicate that it has purchase outright the rights to player Jose Maria Basanta from Monterrey,” Fiorentina have released in a statement.
“Basanta was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on April 3, 1984. In the last six seasons he has been at Monterrey, where he also wore the captain’s armband, and where he won two Mexican championships and three CONCACAF Champions Leagues.
“The defender has also played 12 times for the Argentine national team, participating in the last World Cup.”
No fee is mentioned, but it is understood that Vincenzo Montella’s side have paid out €2.5m for his signature.
