New Genoa signing Tomas Rincon introduced himself to fans. “They called me a Venezuelan Gennaro Gattuso.”

The 26-year-old midfielder completed his transfer from Hamburg this week, a free agent after his contract expired.

“The negotiations were concluded quickly. All it took was a phone call from Genoa President Enrico Preziosi to finish everything off in two days,” Rincon told Lavinotinto.com.

“There were several different offers on the table, but going to Genoa was the right choice. I have already spoken to the Coach and he said he’s happy with my arrival, so I hope to adapt fast.

“The Rossoblu have a culture that is quite South American. I will always be grateful to the Bundesliga for helping me grow, but now it’s time to find consistency in Serie A.”

When asked to describe himself to the supporters, Rincon revealed an Italian connection.

“I personally don’t like comparisons, but they used to call me the Venezuelan Gattuso.”
