Douglas Maicon’s agent slammed media reports of a Roma contract dispute. “We are in total agreement.”

The right-back is not included in the squad for their Austrian training camp, which runs from August 9-15.

All three major sports papers reported this morning that his extended stay in Brazil was a bargaining tool for better personal terms on his contract, but sources close to the club assured it was a pre-planned break.

“Maicon played his final World Cup game on July 12,” agent Roberto Calenda told Sport Mediaset.

“As agreed with his club, he is to be back at work for August 12. Any other discussion is superfluous and insignificant.

“People cannot, based on entirely spurious theories, connect an early return from vacation to the issue of contract renewal.

“We are in agreement with Roma on everything. Maicon showed his worth here and wants to continue doing it with determination and professionalism. The rest does not count.

“I don’t see how it’s possible to create controversy or launch unfounded accusations with the aim of disturbing the atmosphere around the club.

“This is unacceptable. I repeat, the player and the club are totally in sync on the date of his return and the contract renewal.”
