Udinese bow to Black Cats

Udinese’s pre-season tour continued with a 2-0 defeat at Sunderland, conceding two goals in as many minutes.

The Friulani visited Heritage Park and Luis Muriel tested Costel Pantilimon a couple of times in the first half with Silvan Widmer turning off target and the goalkeeper fingertipping an Allan screamer out from under the bar.

After the restart Zeljko Brkic was made to work, palming a fierce Wickham free kick round the post.

Sunderland caught Udinese by surprise with two goals in as many minutes. First Vergini got on the end of a Gomez corner, then the same player was brought down for a penalty which Wickham converted.

Brkic rushed off his line to charge down Agnew’s effort, while Bruno and Muriel threatened at the other end.
