Defeated FIGC presidential candidate Demetrio Albertini has described Carlo Tavecchio’s win as a victory for corporatism.

The former Milan midfielder was always the outsider to win today’s election, with the vote going very much as expected.

“I wanted to be a different alternative,” Albertini told Sport Mediaset after Tavecchio was confirmed as the new head of Italian football’s governing body.

“But you could see the corporatism present in the pact made by the Leagues. The main block is always difficult to break up.
