Fiorentina continued their good pre-season form by beating Spanish second division side Real Betis 2-1 this evening.
It was a second win on their tour of Spain in as many days for the Viola, who saw off the challenge of Primera Division outfit Malaga 2-0 last night.
The team that took to the field tonight were considerably weaker than Vincenzo Montella’s starting 11 yesterday, but that did not stop the Tuscan side racing into a two goal lead before half time.
Juan Vargas opened the scoring on 27 minutes following good work by Cristiano Piccini, before Khouma Babacar got on the end of Joaquin’s ball in from the right to double Fiorentina’s lead.
Javier Matilla pulled a goal back for the hosts early in the second half but for Viola fans, the main talking point of the second 45 minutes will have been the appearance of Juan Cuadrado, who came off the bench to replace Joaquin in the 63rd minute.
The Colombian has been heavily linked with a move to either Barcelona or Manchester United this summer, with Viola owner Andrea Della Valle having said the situation would be resolved one way or the other by the end of the week.
German striker Mario Gomez also came on as he continues to build match sharpness ahead of the new campaign.
