Genoa hold out Espanyol

Genoa eventually capitulated to Espanyol on penalties after a creditable 0-0 draw in Spain.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s men flew out for the pre-season Ciutat de Barcelona trophy and gave a good account of themselves.

Lanza turned over the bar and Edenilson was only denied by the goalkeeper’s legs, who also blocked a Diego Perotti free kick.

Mattia Perin was called into action with a save on Garcia and Perotti drilled off target.

The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes, so was decided by a penalty shoot-out. All the players converted except for Edenilson, whose final spot-kick was beaten away.
