FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio says he will explain his error in making racist comments towards African players to UEFA.
The new man in charge of Italian football’s governing body labelled African players ‘banana eaters’ during the build up to the presidential election.
Though he won the vote regardless, it was confirmed this afternoon that his comments are now under investigation.
“I am calm and respectful towards UEFA’s decision,” Tavecchio is quoted as saying by Ansa. “Moreover, it was a required procedure, so for us it was predictable.
“I am certain that at UEFA I will be able to explain both my error and what my real intentions are.”
