It’s claimed Lorenzo Insigne tearfully begged Rafa Benitez and Napoli for a transfer after another row with fans.
The forward is the only native Neapolitan in the squad and often the only Italian in the starting XI, but his relationship with the home fans appears to have irrevocably broken down.
He was loudly jeered several times last season, then insulted by the crowd during a team presentation ceremony.
During the Champions League play-off with Athletic Bilbao, Insigne was booed off while substituted and reacted with a sarcastic gesture to the crowd.
According to Radio Crc, Insigne tearfully begged Benitez and Napoli to be sold, as he has offers from Italy and abroad.
Atletico Madrid and Arsenal are just two of the sides thought to be interested in signing the 23-year-old.
However, it’s also reported that Benitez rejected the appeal and gave Insigne his full support for the season ahead.
This week Insigne’s wife replied to abuse on Twitter by telling Napoli fans “you don’t deserve him.”
