And the goalscorer has thanked his club boss for believing in his ability, and the new national team Coach for calling him up for games against Netherlands and Norway.

“I’m glad to be back playing,” he told a Press conference. “I’m feeling really good, physically.

“Inzaghi and Conte have given me so much. I hope to repay their confidence. They have both made me understand that I have ability to do well.

“Both are motivators and can express what they want to the group.”

El Shaarawy then commented on Mario Balotelli’s exclusion from the squad, and his own position in the team.

“I want to wish Mario all the best with his move [to Liverpool]. I’m sure he’ll demonstrate what a talent he is, because for me, he is one of the strongest around.

“When Conte came to Milanello  I told him that I could easily be a fifth midfielder or play behind the striker.

“He’s been very clear with all of us and we respect him.

“I’m delighted with how the season has started, but now I want to earn my place in the national team and become a great striker for Italy.”
