Lazio are set to finally offer an improved contract to Italy international midfielder Antonio Candreva, even as interest from England persists.

The 27-year-old has been waiting on a new deal promised by President Claudio Lotito and he is now the club’s number one priority, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The winger was at the centre of much transfer speculation over the summer and is rumoured to still be of interest to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, with a view to a January move.

Although his current contract at the Olimpico runs until 2018, Lotito wants to recognise Candreva’s value to Lazio by giving him a deal that would make him the joint-highest paid player in the squad along with Miroslav Klose.

The Corriere dello Sport report that an agreement in principle with the player already exists and that a meeting will be held shortly.

Once a deal is struck, the club will reportedly turn their attention to new contracts for Senad Lulic and Eddy Onazi, who are currently seen at different stages of negotiations with the club.
