Outspoken Lazio owner Claudio Lotito has issued a rallying cry for Lazio fans to ‘stay close to the team’.

Club ultras have confirmed that they will return to the Olimpico for Sunday’s Week 2 fixture against Cesena, to end a form of protest against the President that had seen them keep a majority of the ground empty for home games since March.

Whilst blasting ‘naysayers’ at the weekend, the target of the supporters’ dissatisfaction has urged that any further protest cannot be aimed at the team.

“It is not within my remit to criticize the admissibility of not of a protest, provided that it is constructive and that it remains peaceful,” Lotito has commented today.

“I cannot claim to agree with the content, but everyone is free to express their disagreement. Fortunately we live in a democratic society.

“Anyone can criticise if there are objective reasons, but it must never become a boomerang for the team.

“The important thing is to remain at the side of the teams, not to abandon the boys. I want to fill the stadium every Sunday, starting with the match against Cesena.”
