Manuel Pasqual thanked Antonio Conte for reviving his Italy career, as he provided a crucial assist against Norway.

The Fiorentina veteran came off the bench and his first touch was a cross for Leonardo Bonucci’s header.

“I was fortunate and good to spot Leo’s movement in the middle,” Pasqual told Rai Sport after a 2-0 victory in Oslo.

“We started strong and scored an important goal with Zaza at the start, then built on that for the victory.”

Pasqual was on Cesare Prandelli’s long-list for the World Cup, but did not make the trip to Brazil.

“The fact I was left out of the World Cup was painful, as I thought it was my last international tournament – certainly my last World Cup – but Conte recalled me and I arrive with great enthusiasm.”

Pasqual made a great impact on the game this evening, but denied he was given more freedom to attack.

“The system and movements remained the same. Mattia De Sciglio had been playing for 70 minutes, so I had fresher legs and could provide more going forward with crosses at that time.

“I think I did pretty well against Holland and this system suits me with very attacking wing-backs. I hope that I can continue impressing for Fiorentina and also for Italy.”

Naturally, there was a thought for his Viola teammate Giuseppe Rossi, who is out for another four to five months following knee surgery.

“We are all upset at what happened. He remained top scorer I don’t know how many weeks after he was injured and took the team on his shoulders.

“I hope he can be back as soon as possible, but of course with all due caution considering all the problems he has experienced.”
