Veteran Empoli star Massimo Maccarone thinks the future of Italian attackers looks bright with Simone Zaza and Mattia Destro.

Both men were included in Antonio Conte’s first international squad, with Zaza scoring and impressing during Tuesday’s 2-0 win in Norway.

“I know Simone Zaza well,” the 35-year-old told Roma Radio. “He has great technical ability and is strong in the air.

“Meanwhile, I came across Destro when he was at Siena and he was already a very good player back then…”

Zaza was signed outright from Juventus in the summer by Sassuolo, but the Old Lady do have a buy-back option.

Destro, 23, is currently in his third season with Roma.

Conte, who resigned from Juventus in the summer, decided to leave Liverpool’s Mario Balotelli out of his maiden picks.
