Genoa deny Brazilian reports they could be fined, penalised or even demoted for unpaid debts to Palmeiras.

The issue surrounds the player Anselmo, who was bought by Genoa in July 2012 for €900,000 to be paid in instalments.

Genoa paid the first €300,000 instalment, but reportedly did not provide the remaining amount.

It was reported today that FIFA had given Genoa an ultimatum to pay by August 2014 or face punishment, but that there was still no money changing hands.

“With regards to the news divulged by Brazilian media suggesting the club will face disciplinary action due to the transfer of player Anselmo from Palmeiras, we wish to point out Genoa Cfc have received no notification of disciplinary proceedings from FIFA.

“Any reference to hypothetical penalties or other sanctions are entirely without foundation.”

FIFA had already sided with Palmeiras in 2013 and raised the sum owed to €700,000 by adding a fine.
