Arrigo Sacchi was harshly critical of Mario Balotelli, claiming in his absence “we’ll finally see what Milan can do.”

The striker was sold to Liverpool for £16m (€20m) and left out of Antonio Conte’s Italy squad for the friendly against the Netherlands.

“The day Balotelli left, even though he is an extraordinary talent, I thought we’ll finally see what Milan can do at their full potential. It looks as if that’s what is indeed happening,” Sacchi told QS Il Giorno.

“A player must act like a player. People need to have motivation and enthusiasm. After that comes functionality and how you fit into the technical project.

“Conte put everything back to where it should be, seeking motivated players, because it all begins from the person.

“Talent is bottom on the list of considerations, above all because there are very few natural talents out there. All this is true of Balotelli, but not only him.”
