Verona Coach Andrea Mandorlini claimed that he knew his side would have a hard time during their 2-1 win against Palermo on Monday night.

The Gialloblu won out thanks to Luca Toni’s late first-half equaliser from the penalty spot, before an Eros Pisano own-goal sealed the points in the second half.

“I knew that we would have a hard time because there are some new lads in the team,” Mandorlini has told Sky Sport Italia after the win.

“We played a good game, we created chances. We have also suffered and won – these are three important points.”

The Coach went on to comment on the role of Lazaros Christodoulopoulos, who had a quiet 66 minutes on the pitch, playing wide in a 4-3-3.

“I have spoken with him. In Greece, he played as a trequartista. For the national team, he has played wide in a 4-4-2.

“He was not having a great evening – he can do better, and I am sure he will. But in this role he can play with quite happily.

“It was not a defensive move. It is great that he tracked back from wide – I have great confidence in him.”

Mandorlini also commented on Mounir Obbadi, who, unlike Christodoulopoulos, was one of the new boys that impressed on Monday evening.

“He is a good player. He is used to playing in a certain way, but he goes on to the pitch with quality and quantity.

“He can play in front of the defence. We have worked together for two months, but it takes time for habits to change.”
