Massimo Maccarone has urged his Empoli colleagues to back up ‘beautiful performances’ with what matter most – goals.

The newly-promoted outfit are bottom of the League after the first two rounds of Serie A action, but can, according to one of their veteran forwards, take confidence in how they played in Week 2 agianst Roma.

“The impressions from the Roma game are very good, we played a great game,” Maccarone has told Tuttomercatoweb today.

“The only downside was in the result. We faced a Roma who underestimated the game.

“We have to continue in this way and the results will come. We need to be more clinical as we are lacking only the goals.”

Even so, Maccarone has made clear that praise for such performances alone cannot win games, such as Week 3’s crunch tie with Cesena.

“With compliments we cannot do anything, we must begin to take points because we cannot save ourselves with beautiful performances.

“We will arrive at Cesena on Saturday and face a direct opponent in the battle for survival and we must try to make the most of the game.

“The fans? In recent years they have been more and more numerous, thanks to our results. We have also been able to convey our passion towards the city.

“I am certain that they will always remain behind us.”
