Jeremy Menez explained his extraordinary “spontaneous” back-heel flick goal and prefers life at Milan to PSG.

The forward spoke to France Football and naturally was asked about the goal he scored in the 5-4 victory over Parma, which quickly went viral.

“I made the most of a defensive error, as the back pass to the goalkeeper was weak,” said Menez.

“I understood his intentions, but frankly after that it was all improvisation. I went past the goalkeeper and finished it off with a back-heel. I did the first time that came to mind.

“I also tried to lift the ball on the back-heel to avoid the goalkeeper and defender running back. I’d never tried anything like that, not even in training. It was all spontaneous. These are the moves you try when you have confidence.”

Menez seems a completely different player to the one who struggled at Paris Saint-Germain and he agrees the move to San Siro was crucial.

“I am not afraid of competition, but it has to be healthy. Instead today it’s better to be foreign than French if you want to play at PSG.

“Above all you have to take care of communication. Lucas has been there for two years, he scored fewer goals than me, but he cost more and is Brazilian.

“I am French and Parisian, I don’t have a Twitter or an Instagram account to post pretty pictures and messages. I don’t spend time on social networks.

“That doesn’t mean I don’t love PSG, it’s just that I don’t like to fake things. Many players now act differently.

“There is also a lot of competition for places at Milan with Torres, El Shaarawy, Pazzini, Honda and Niang, but here you earn your spot by working hard.

“Inzaghi was a great striker and he made me realise that he really wanted me at Milan. Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva always spoke highly of Milan and now I understand why.”
